HIGHLIGHTS OF 2007
During 2007 we were invited to have number of our sires be a part of various sites around Australia. Miramoona 600 who has been in the SheepGenomics Project at Faulkner Field Station will now be the merino link sire for that project to the Sheep CRC Information Nucleus Flock at Armidale. Miramoona 156 was also used this year in the Nucleus Flock.
A number ewe hoggets were selected for the Bare Breech Strike Genetics Project. Miramoona 25 (who has a bare breech) was also used this year in the project at both Armidale and Mt Barker, Western Australia. The selective breeding program is to evaluate the impact of not mulesing. Differences in the incidence of breech strike, wool production and cost of production are being evaluated in resistance and control lines in each site.

SHEEP GENETICS AND ASBV’s
Miramoona is a member of Sheep Genetics, Merinoselect
The stud was involved with MLA’s Merino Validation Project since its inception in 2002 that has now been merged into Sheep Genetics(SG),MERINOSELECT, that hosts the world’s largest merino database.
The information is expressed as ASBV’s(Australian Sheep Breeding Values). ASBV’s are designed to give producers reliable genetic evaluation across flocks and independent of the environment and location effects. Merinoselect can help you identify sheep in terms of their genectic potential and the value they can bring to your business
As a member of Sheep Genetics, Miramoona can deliver independent and across flock data because of our extensive pedigree records.
Key proven, Miramoona sires have been selected for the SheepGenomics Project, (the biggest sheep gene-mapping project in the world) Sheep CRC Information Nucleus Flock and the Bare Breech Strike Resistance Project.
